Since I was shooting a slide film with narrow latitude, I tested the Epic's metering abilities by taking two shots.  One was made with the conventional averaging meter and the other with the built-in spot meter (reading the birch leaves).  Though the averaged exposure worked best, I've found the spot function indispensable for trickier situations.
