Bald Mountains |
| Bisected by the French Broad River, the Bald Mountains
form a rugged escarpment of 3,000 to 4,000-foot peaks along the
Tennessee/North Carolina border. Deep gorges and open summits
characterize a region that is far less visited than the Great Smokies immediately south.
Rather than lines of traffic and mobbed visitor centers, travelers here
are more likely to encounter thru-hikers on the Appalachian Trail or
rafters on the region's whitewater.
