National Forests

The Forest Service seems stuck in a love-hate relationship with its recreational users, as it simultaneously maintains trails and wilderness status in some areas while conducting controversial timber sales in others.  Despite these issues, the agency is rarely commended for managing several hundred thousand acres in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia that otherwise would have been open for development long ago.
